Having a child is a gift many women will receive in their lives. However, many women choose when to have their children so as to fit being a mother into having a career and other demands. In this way, such women decide the time to have their children so that they can focus much more exclusively on caring and raising children at that particular time. Because of this, birth control is an important element that lets such women choose when they want to have their children.
There are different birth control methods available, and this will allow you to choose the one that is best for both your health and your lifestyle. There are both natural methods and man-made options. All of these methods work to some extent to prevent pregnancy from happening, but for some women, they cannot tolerate specific methods. For example, you may be at risk for blood clots and therefore, some versions of the pill are not an option for you.
At present, there are about 40 different contraceptive pills you can take. There are other delivery systems of this type of contraceptive method, such as by shot rather than by pill. You may also use a birth control ring, a birth control patch, or even as a "morning after" pill. All of these methods are to some extent artificial methods, in that they provide some sort of chemical alteration to your system and are man-made.
Besides these synthetic, man-made options, you also have natural birth control methods such as the rhythm method and fertility awareness. These options work by using your ability to pay attention to your cycles and plan accordingly. For example, you would refrain from intercourse during the times in your cycle when you are most fertile if you would not want to become pregnant. Men as well as women can pay attention to the woman's cycles in order to practice this method.
Once you do choose to have a child, it is both the man's and the woman's responsibility to become a parent and to raise and nurture that child accordingly. After all, if you have used birth control methods to time your child's birth to the exact time when it's best for you to have a child, you should then be fully ready and willing to parent once your child arrives. Regardless of which birth control option you choose, be aware of those that may negatively impact your health and therefore avoid them. In addition, even if a particular birth control option is not a risk to your health, it may still have some unpleasant side effects. If this should happen, talk to your doctor and if necessary, change your birth control method.
Once you have considered all options, you can choose which birth control option is best for you and your spouse to try. Should you not choose a birth control option and actively try to become pregnant, the children you have will become the family you love and nurture. When you choose the right birth control method from the many alternatives available, you control family planning yourself instead of simply letting the fates do it for you.
